An unusual and chaotic scene unfolded in Springfield, Massachusetts after a local beekeeper allegedly released a swarm of bees on sheriff’s deputies during an eviction operation.
According to reports, Rebecca Woods arrived at the property of an elderly cancer patient with a truck carrying several active beehives. Authorities say she was attempting to prevent deputies from removing her friend from the home.
As officers approached the property, Woods reportedly opened the hives, releasing thousands of bees into the area. Deputies quickly found themselves under attack as the insects swarmed around them, creating panic and confusion at the scene.
Video footage later captured the chaos, showing officers trying to escape the aggressive swarm while the situation spiraled out of control.
Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi described the incident as something unlike anything his department had experienced before.
Authorities later arrested Woods, who was eventually convicted on multiple assault-related charges connected to the incident. She received a six-month prison sentence, though reports indicate she has since appealed the ruling.
Despite the dramatic attempt to stop the eviction, the elderly homeowner ultimately still lost the property.
The bizarre case has since gained widespread attention online, with many shocked that a dispute over housing escalated into what some are calling a “bee attack.”
